An Epoch Ends with Bajya

Words cannot be enough to describe the loss that is recently experienced by the creative world of art and wisdom. An iconic novelist, playwright and drama writer Fatima Suraiyya Bajya passed away due to illness. The vacuum, which is created by her death, can never be filled as she gave the literary and creative world of Pakistan a lot to remember and cherish for decades.

Bajya gained popularity through literary activities from radio Pakistan and television. She was continuously working to write dramas for PTV centers in Islamabad and Lahore. PTV cannot thank Bajya enough for all her creative efforts because she joined the television channel when it was first launched. Her first play was Mehman.

Some of the most intriguing dramas written for Pakistani television and radio are being scripted by Bajya. Some of them are Shama, Afshaan, Aroosa, Zeenat and others. Her entire family is associated with the production of some of the best literary materials in Urdu. During her lifetime, Bajya always wrote stories that emphasized on family life and goodness of human beings. She valued human goodness over all the other materialistic joys of life.

It may surprise a lot of people today that Bajya never attended formal schooling still; she could understand moral values, ethics and art so exceptionally well in comparison to all the other literate people in Pakistan. Bajya won various national awards for her cultural efforts. Her words and her perceptions would always dominate a very large mindset of mainstream society.

Afreen is a young writer and visionary towards life predominantly. I believe that writing is similar to life; it inspires surprises and creates. Being a Literature Masters, I am passionate about viewing the world with literary spectacle. Solely in love with this beautiful part of Universe called Pakistan, I am creating words and ideas for CharchaGuru.
