Beat the exam stress with simple tips

Exams and stress go hand in hand. However, planning the schedule well beforehand correctly can help you to deal with the last minute hurly-burly. If you are nervous or stressed out before exams, which is quite common, then here are few expert-recommended pieces of advice to take in hand exam stress and help you out during the exams. 

  1. First and foremost thing is you need to stay healthy with a good diet and sufficient sleep of 8-9 hours every night. Sleep deprivation causes lack of attention during study and work. Further, you have to take out some time for physical and leisure activities. The more you will stay healthy and active, the more your cognition activities will develop.

 

  1. Make schedule out of everything. Divide each of your tasks with regular, focused and well-timed sessions. By this way, you would know at what time what tasks you have to perform. Moreover, you can evaluate your learning abilities that will lead to paying more focus.  

 

  1. Don’t discuss studies and work with friends in leisureliness. In this way, you will not make comparisons between your work and others’. Relax and take part in positive debates.

 

  1. Try to complete your coursework and lessons few days before exams. Never start a whole new chapter or topic at the eleventh hour. This can make you confuse and anxious just ahead of the exam.

 

  1. Revise comprehensively but don’t overdo it. Avoid hysterical final moment revisions as it leads to stress and mixing up the whole thing. Try to reduce the waiting time outside the examination room. Be confident of what you have done and tell yourself repeatedly, ‘I am well-prepared. I will do my best’.

 

  1. If you feel hassled in the exam room, do not fear. Think that being stressed out in the examination room as usual. For the time being, here are few tips on how to cope with it as you become less restless and makeup yourself.

 

  • Take a few deep breaths as a quick relaxation method.

 

  • Read the question paper thoroughly and organize your time. Relax, it’s not a race and there’s no need to be panic.

 

  • If you don’t know a solution, put aside to solve it for later and move forward the next one. Leave some more space after every answer for adding answers far ahead.

 

  • Don’t be troubled by the number of extra sheets others are asking for. A stack of answer sheet doesn’t matter, your quality of answer matters. Home in on your answer sheet and leave particular time for review.

In addition to these, there are few things you should never do after exams that can up the stress. These include not getting involved in debates about the question paper, not distressing about what you may have lost out or could have written otherwise. The minute you reach home, take a break and relax at ease and take up again studies only when you feel relaxed.
