Super-over led thrilling nail-biter saw winning Lahore over Karachi

Since PSL has countless exciting stories to express but Lahore and Karachi Sunday night’s thriller has got to be one of the best matches of the T20 cricket history. Dubai witnessed the most electrifying game in the Pakistan Super League as Lahore Qalandars triumphed over Karachi Kings in the Super Over with the match tied after 20 overs of both innings were bowled.

Sunil Narine once again proved why he is the world's best T20 bowler when the cool-as-cucumber West Indian bowled a terrific super over in which he defended 12 runs and sealed a thrilling victory over Karachi Kings in the 24th game of the Pakistan Super League in Dubai.

The second game that went till Super Over this season, both given by Lahore Qalandars but it’s the first time Lahore Qalandars have won super over and also back to back games in the history of PSL. It was a cracker of a match with the pendulum swinging this way and that. Lahore needed 16 off the last over and a batsman turned hero Sohail Akhtar smashed a six and a four off Usman Khan Shanwari to stay alive in the game.

The real drama happened at this point with Akhtar being caught at long on off the final delivery, only for the umpires to make a late check for step over. As it turned out, Usman had violated by a big edge. With a run came after a no-ball and a free hit after that, there was chaos to decide exactly how many runs Qalandar required off the last ball. So, with the last ball, needed two runs from the free-hit but could manage only one and that led to the Super Over which Lahore won to put Karachi's progress on hold.

Earlier in the day, Karachi Kings made a competitive total of 163 through Lendl Simmons and Babar Azam who scored half-centuries after the early loss of Joe Denly in the third over. With Simmons dealing the counterpunches and Azam remaining determined, Karachi entered the second phase of the game with their high morale.

Lahore's game was sculpted on the same pattern as Karachi's, as they hoarded runs at a perfect pace without much overindulgence. Agha Salman (50 off 45 balls) played a settled innings with Fakhar Zaman (28) and Devcich (24) assembling around him.  Karachi's momentum-swing while on the field came through an eccentric boundary-line catch by the Azam-Simmons cartel once again that sent off Salman while Captain Imad Wasim face injury on the field a few balls later after touchdown badly on his head while taking an outstanding catch.

The outcome means Karachi Kings remain in the third position with nine points, following Gladiators and United from the top positions while Lahore remains rooted to the bottom. Karachi now has a chance to go top of the positions only if they win from Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United in their last two matches in Sharjah.
