Pakistan Super League Day 2: Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans displayed electrifying performance to win their matches

Silencing the banters and trolls for calling an overrated side, Karachi Kings highlighted their title-credentials by winning an exciting opener against Quetta Gladiators in HBL Pakistan Super League Season 3.

Terming as, the biggest club in terms of players and budget, Karachi Kings nose-dived to make the final of the first two PSL seasons, even with having an exclusive display of talent to pick from. Unheralded Quetta, in contrast, was second to finish in both seasons.

But, in the second match of the season at Dubai International Stadium on Friday, Karachi strongly indicated to fix the damages of the past and successfully defended their target of 150, hampering Quetta to 130-9 to claim a 19-run victory.

Opting for a bat first, Karachi Kings started off on a good note. Once they were 60 for 2 but followed a lethargic period of Khurram Manzoor, they lost six wickets for just 13 runs. Colin Ingram, the South African batsman, muscled them to 149 for nine from their 20 overs, as he made 41 from 21 balls and a 48-run stand with Ravi Bopara in 4.3 overs. Karachi's problems were mainly due to Shane Watson's smart bowling, which led him to collect three preys to reach 200 wickets in T20 cricket.

Faced with Karachi’s remarkable battery of bowlers, the mediocre-looking target proved to be a glitch for Quetta. Captain Imad Wasim took two for 19 from his four overs, and Tymal Mills and Mohammed Irfan Jr took two wickets apiece.

The moment of the match was indeed provided by superstar Shahid Afridi in which he grabbed an unbelievable catch against Quetta Gladiators. Afridi picked up Umar Amin on 31 after the batsman hit a length delivery on the stumps from Muhammad Irfan attractively towards long-on.

However, the ball which appeared to be cruising over the boundary, was caught by Shahid Afridi as he jumped up and sticks his right hand up, grabs it with one hand, Afridi throws the ball up before the ball drive carried him towards the boundary and run back in to complete the catch. That was, so far, the best catch of the tournament.

Latter, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans came in action wherein Qalandars couldn’t help themselves to get rid of the misery and Sultans successively claimed their win after Imran Tahir and Junaid Khan’s striking performance against the Lahore Batting line-up. Junaid Khan became the 2nd player to score a hat-trick against Lahore Qalandar in PSL after Mohammad Amir. Interestingly, entire PSL has seen two hat-tricks and both came against Lahore Qalandars under the captaincy of Malik.

Multan Sultans are here with a bang and leading the table with the highest run-rate. The way they destructed Lahore Qalanders in the last 3 overs was commendable.

So, it’s the 3rd day of PSL and Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United are coming across with Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators. And, we will be seeing a brand new day and more fireworks to come!!
