‘Ronaldinho and Friends’ Won Pakistan’s Hearts

Whole Pakistan loved the moment when Ryan Giggs chanted, “Pakistan Zindabad”. It was a dream for millions to see their superstars visiting Pakistan’s land, playing on Pakistan’s grounds and praising Pakistan’s people as peace lovers. Ronaldinho and Friends have concluded their visit but won millions of hearts here.

The team that landed Pakistan on 7th July had Brazilian Superstar Ronaldinho Gaucho, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, former England goalkeeper David James, George Boateng of the Netherlands and former France and Arsenal stars Robert Pires and Nicolas Anelka.

‘Ronaldinho and Friends’ enjoyed the hospitality and love given by peace loving country that they expressed gracefully in a press conference and on Twitter.

Thousands of people appeared the two matches in Karachi and Lahore on 8th and 9th July. The Ronaldinho-led team won both the matches against the Giggs-led team. The two games were organized to encourage youngsters in the cricket-mad country to play the beautiful game.

Ronaldinho tweeted: "Pakistan is peaceful & loving. Thanks #PakArmyChief Thanks #Pakistan See you again... @OfficialDGISPR @LeisureLeaguePK @wgtrunkwala1912," twitted the former Barcelona player after taking part in two seven-a-side exhibition matches in Pakistan”.

Since the 2009 terrorists’ attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team's bus in Lahore, Pakistan has been cornered by major international cricket teams for security causes. Pakistan's cricket team have been forced to play their 'home' matches in the UAE. Cricket has suffered in the country ever since that 2009 attack.

But their spectacular triumph in the Champions Trophy last month has boosted the spirit of a nation and they are now hoping to welcome back international cricket teams. Now, this determination to bring iconic footballers to Pakistan will further lighten up the chances of international sports to Pakistan.

"Football is huge here, especially with the younger generation. We want to give a message that Pakistan is a safe country to visit," Giggs said.
