Hawa Hawa and other Bollywood peppy songs that didn’t need remixing

Who would have not heard the iconic song of Pop Singer Hassan Jahangir, Hawa Hawa from the late 80s? At some point, you must have heard ‘Hawa Hawa’ in your lives. The song grew famous across the border and became as popular that used to frequently play on Indian radio. So, Hawa Hawa and Hassan Jahangir aren’t something that seems unfamiliar with Indian peeps.

Arjun Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz starrer upcoming Bollywood movie, Mubarakan has made a cover version of the classic song with remixes. The new version has been vocal by Mika Singh, and the funky video features Arjun Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz dancing with a crowd of flamboyantly dressed backup dancers.

The song has just hook line ‘Hawa Hawa’ with new rap creation by the composers Gourov Roshin for rest of the song. But unfortunately, like every other remix of Bollywood, this song is too easily forgettable and won’t go to add anything in Bollywood music industry. ‘Hawa Hawa’ also has been copied previously by Indian music composers with different lyrics and same hook line just after few years of release and they didn’t stick.

This is not the recent case as we are observing this trend since 2016. Filmmakers try to pretend cool by recreating old famous songs in their movies but it sounds totally unnecessary. Remakes of Humma Humma, Tamma Tamma, Laila O Laila, Hawa Hawai, Janab e Aali, Yeh Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana, Sara Zamana, Lakri ki Kathi and so on. These songs are already catchy enough and didn’t need to be revivified through remix track. The DJ touch actually ruined the original song by making it thorny and brassy.

Remaking a famous one in an average looking movie doesn’t sound a cool idea though. Every one of us has heard and enjoyed Lakri ki Kathi from film Masoom in childhood and till date the song is stunning. But the song has been rehashed in a newly released movie Hanuman Da Damdaar. Did it need to be remixed?
