India Outclasses South Africa and Qualifies for Semi-Finals

With a clinical 8th wicket victory over No.1 team, defending champions India knocked out South Africa in all slices to mark the entry in the competition of Semi-finals of ICC Champions Trophy at Oval. Now, India will play face England or Bangladesh in Semis.

In an unsaid crucial quarter-final contest, South Africans choked again and proved themselves to be constant chokers in important tournaments’ matches. There was a prodigious hype about India v South Africa because of their ICC ranking but the match turned out to be a one-sided encounter for India as Proteas lost the grip over the match in the middle hours and lost eight wickets for just 51 runs after being stable at 116 for one at one stage.

Indian team has successfully made a comeback to win the match and of course to cover up the previous failure against Sri Lanka. It was a day when a win was needed most for both sides, Virat Kohli brought up his best team on the field while AB de Villiers’ men went under severe pressure, as it has been with them in top stakes games.

Opting for a field, Indians bowlers did some unbelievable tactics to keep South Africa restrained from scoring high. Proteas’ batting start was slow but calm and positive as the opening pair Hashim Amla and Quinton deKock batted for 17.3 overs. Then, the Indian bowling shifted gears barring the bit expensive over from Pandiya and showed the complete performance with three run-outs (including Miller and de Villiers) and exceptional fielding. And then it was their strength to show; batting.

India’s batting was too sluggish until the end of 9th over. The duo of Shikhar Dhawan (78 off 83) and captain’s Virat Kohli (76 off 101) made India a way back to the Semi-final. They added 128 runs for the second wicket partnership. It was Dhawan’s 3rd fifty score in Champions Trophy’17 and Kohli grabbed his 41st half-century after golden duck against Sri Lanka.

India achieved the required target of 191 in 38 overs. Yuvraj Singh finished the match beautifully with a six to JP Duminy to win the match. Now, the eyes are stuck on the Bangladesh and England’ match that will decide with whom India is going to play Semi-Final.
