Android Becomes the Top Operating System

You will now have the idea why the majority of Pakistanis have an android system as their smartphone. The Google-owned, user-friendly system of android becomes the leading mobile operating system, ruling among all its competitors with the largest market share, global stats tool said.

During the past one year, from April 2016 to March 2017, Android grabbed over 81 percent market share in Pakistan leaving behind its peers iOS (4.27pc), Nokia operating system (3.76pc), Series 40 (2.43pc) and Windows (1.26pc), said StatCounter.

These statistics were taken from web analytics firm StatCounter which composed the data by tracking 2.5 million websites, accounted for 15 billion monthly page views. The data showed that after years of controlling sales in the smartphone category, android has, at last, emerged as the world's biggest operating system. It edged past Microsoft's Windows in the global market this March.

Mobile density is quickly rising in the country with a total number of mobile phone subscribers having overlapped the 100 million spot. Official facts showed that internet-enabled devices or smartphones are set to exceed the 40-million levels.

More to that, Dublin-based web traffic Analytics Company found that Google-owned Android also held the biggest market share as the standard operating system across all platforms, including desktop, tablet, and mobile. It topped with 57.68 percent of market share, followed by Windows (26.98pc), iOS (4.03pc), Nokia operating system (2.6pc) and Series 40 (1.68pc). In the last five-year, Android’s global market share improved, while that of Windows reduced.

According to StatCounter, Google remains the most popular search engine in Pakistan as well as internationally. It fascinated more than 90 percent of the global (and Pakistani) consumers during the past year, leaving Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and Yandex much behind in the race.

Facebook, in social media sites, top the list with 98.97 percent market share becoming most popular social media platform in Pakistan. California-based social media fever faces a direct competition from at least five competitors, counting Twitter (0.47pc), Pinterest (0.28pc), Tumblr (0.08pc), LinkedIn (0.06pc) and Instagram (0.04pc). Internationally, Facebook entertained a market share of 87.15 percent in the past one year.
