WhatsApp Takes U-Turn on Old Text Statuses

WhatsApp is ready to bring back its old text-based “Status” feature after facing a lot of criticism from the users. But, the Snapchat cloned Stories-like Status option will stay here for the entertainment and fun of the users. WhatsApp had previously text-based status option since its introduction.

Facebook-owned instant messaging and calling platform, WhatsApp met with major updates a few weeks ago and launched a version which was much resembled with Snapchat and Instagram 24-hours-long story feature. The new updated WhatsApp version allowed users to share pictures, videos and GIFs to put as their status that will automatically expire after one day.

But immediate counterattack has led WhatsApp to move the change back and add the text statuses that had been part of the app since its beginning, and have now been removed. Stories will continue to exist in the app, but they will work alongside the traditional text updates.

Now, WhatsApp told TechCrunch that with WhatsApp’s latest beta, the firm is testing the text-only Status option again in the “About” section. About Status will be rolled out to all Android users through an update until the next week and very soon to iPhone users, too. Users can set the text status by opening ‘About’ section of their profile. And can read others too.  The official statement reads,

“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day.”

The short-lived stories, now have gained much fame due to its funny and quick response. Many social media sites have added this feature to their apps like Snapchat, Instagram, Whatsapp and now Facebook has also announced to include story feature to entertain more people in different ways.
