PSL opens doors for top-level cricket in Pakistan

It’s just two days passed since the Pakistan Super League final has done successfully and PSL is showing its worth.  After the mind-blowing event at Lahore, International cricket has opened its doors to revive the cricket in Pakistan. The International Cricket Council is intended to send a World XI to Pakistan in late September for a four-match Twenty20 series in Gaddafi, Lahore, as stated by The Guardian.

The expected four-match series is to be called The Independence Cup to mark the 70th year of partition. The series is intended to revive the international cricket in the country after around eight-year pause. The hiatus came from an unfortunate attack on the Sri-Lankan team bus in 2009.  Since then, Pakistan is playing home matches at neutral grounds and has hosted Zimbabwe for two matches in Lahore.

The World XI series international team will gather in Dubai on 17 September, before coming to Lahore for four matches on the 22nd, 23rd, 28th and 29th and will perform practice once there.

Giles Clarke, the ECB president, and head of the ICC's Pakistan Task Force is a powerful force behind the decision. On his visit to Pakistan in January, he checked all the security conditions. It was his first stay to the nation as head of the Pakistan Task Force and he met with higher officials of the Punjab government to review the safety preparations.

Just after PSL, he congratulated PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan on the "successful staging" of the PSL final, terming it a "tremendous achievement". And for the series, he said: "Very well played. We will be there in September."

“The desire is to give the cricket-starved Pakistani supporters the chance to see some of the world’s finest players in live action,” Clarke said. “The world of cricket needs to help Pakistan, who cannot continue to play their home fixtures overseas. The youth need inspiring, and the national teams need far more cricket played in familiar terrain. Furthermore, the terrorists cannot win and cricket must not give up on Pakistan.”

“As soon as they brought out how tough it would be to get to the players, I almost felt it was my duty to come and represent the team and do the right thing by them,” Malan said before final, “Despite all the concerns that there have been in Pakistan; there has been an initiative to try to bring top-class cricket back to the country.”

A successful conclusion of PSL in Pakistan signaled a colossal craving in Pakistan for international sporting events. PSL final in Lahore may just be a step in that direction. The more is yet to come.
