Finally Facebook to Introduce Dislike Button

Social media giant Facebook has finally listened to their users’ wishes and pressure by testing a ‘dislike’ button for the first time, but not on the place you have expected but it’s on messenger as emoji feature.

The long-awaited feature has been rolled out to a restricted number of people in the Facebook’s Messenger app that is connected to the main Facebook platform but only boasts half users of facebook which is around one billion accounts.

Facebook has repeatedly said that it would not add a “dislike” reaction to keep away the site from negativity and bullying. But with the introduction of “sad” and “angry” reactions, they’ve already given users the choices to select emotions that aren’t just rainbows and confetti.

The ‘dislike’ button is a new addition which was proposed almost a year ago and is now under testing for introducing to general users. The only variation between the reactions on Facebook’s main news feed and those trialed on Messenger is the dislike option or thumbs down emoticon.

“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message,” according to the official statement of Facebook via Tech Crunch.

And even with the new Messenger Reaction's optic, the company purportedly told Tech Crunch that its thumbs down was planned to function more as a "no" button. The idea, Facebook explained, is to see whether Reactions turns out to be supportive to those who use the Messenger platform for planning and voting.

Facebook users have been requesting the company for a “dislike” option for years, and it seems the company has bowed down to their requests— sort of. While most people would anticipate seeing the long-awaited thumbs down symbol along with the other post reactions — like, love, haha, wow, sad, and angry — but instead, the feature is in Facebook Messenger.
