Rihanna's poignant speech at Harvard

Rihanna made it to Harvard, not for the degree but for the appreciation. So pop singer, after music, is doing wonders in philanthropy that took her to the stage of Harvard to receive the great Harvard Foundation award for Humanitarian of the Year. In the ceremony, Rihanna gave such touching speech that’s truly a humanitarian speech.

Rihanna, while receiving the award didn’t forget her signature style of charm by swishing her hair, striking a pose and said, “So I made it to Harvard”. This drove crowd crazy and massive applause roared the hall. The eight-time Grammy winner cheered the fans like always.

In her poignant speech, she talked about many things and delivered a powerful message of humanity, hope, and optimism.

“We’re all human,” she said. “We all just want a chance, a chance at life, a chance at an education, a chance at a future, really. At CLF [Clara Lionel Foundation], our mission is to impact as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one. Just one. As I stare out into this beautiful room, I see optimism, I see hope, I see the future. I know that each and every one of you has the opportunity to help someone else. All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is humanitarian.”

“At 17 I started my career here in America, and by the age of 18, I started my first charity organization,” said Rihanna in her speech, “Fast forward to 2012 and then my grandmother, the late Clara Brathwaite, she lost her battle with cancer, which is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation.”

Robyn Rihanna Fenty – Rihanna’s official name – has been involved in several philanthropic efforts, including building a center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer in her native country, Barbados.

To end the ceremony, a young student presented her with flowers. “Rihanna,” the young gentleman said. “We thank you for your compassion, your philanthropy to help others in need, and your wonderful music. On behalf of the children of Cambridge, I present you these flowers as a token of our appreciation.” Taking the flowers, a smiling Rihanna kissed the young man on the cheek.
