Alibaba reveals interests in Pakistan’s e-commerce platform

World Economic Forum 2017 has been so far proven to be a game changer in Pakistan’s economic market. Alongside with all the improvements and achievements which were highly lauded at the event, the major breakthrough was developed in the meeting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with Alibaba group CEO Jack Ma. Considering the advancement in the financial industry, Alibaba expressed its desires to invest in Pakistan commerce industry.

At the 47th conference of World Economic Forum 2017 held in Davos, Switzerland, CEO of Alibaba group Jack Ma revealed the interest of benefitting the global importance of Pakistan’s e-commerce market. He met with PM Nawaz Sharif in PM’s address to top business leaders “Investing in Pakistan: The New Reality” and discussed the importance of CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor). He invited Nawaz Sharif to visit the headquarter of Alibaba group, which is located in Guangzhou. Holding the opportunity, Nawaz Sharif also invited Jack Ma to visit Pakistan.

E-commerce giant, Alibaba group is the leading Chinese firm, founded in 1999 by Jack Ma with website Alibaba.com. It is well-known in providing client to client, business to client and business sales services with foreign buyers through web portals. Its Taobao platform is likely to hold 90 percent estimated consumer to the consumer market. Its Tmall platform has half the business to consumer transactions. Alibaba group has been facilitating 60 million companies around the world.

Jack Ma said that they have a lot of interest in investing and have closely followed positive economic developments in Pakistan and ready to invest in building e-commerce platform. He expressed that they are determined to support the small-scale commerce companies in the developing countries.

This is certainly another positive step after CPEC. This decision would not only be useful for Alibaba group but also help Pakistani E-commerce industry to flourish. It will also offer employment to a younger lot of Pakistan.
