Poor performance drove Pakistan to get white-washed

If someone wants to learn how things plummet quickly then they should give it a start from Pakistan’s test cricket team. Just five months back, after years of struggle, Pakistan achieved the landmark of being number one in the ICC test ranking system but dropped down to 5th now.

Nothing is considered prestigious in cricketing the world than scoring and winning on Australian pitches where our boys were seemed luckless. Pakistan got terribly white-washed by fairly young Aussie’s side and that’s the saddest part. The situation was not even different in previous New Zealand tour.

Australia also made it 12 consecutive wins in home tests vs. Pakistani touring teams with four clean sweeps in a row dating back to 1999. The result was predictable as the final day began, with Josh Hazlewood taking two wickets in rapid succession.

The whole team was unfortunately messed up. Neither our bowling had the sting nor do our batsmen have the confidence to bat. All of them were stuck to perform single innings. Younus Khan did the fight and showed some resistance but when we needed him in the last session, he failed miserably. You can’t expect to be number side while losing 6 matches in a row.

All we hear is new and young talent in Pakistan. Not a single young new player has performed at all. It is only half a dozen players that perform to any extent. Let us imagine we replace the old guards but who are going to take their place? Babar Azam, Sami Aslam or who? In the last several years we have only groomed Azhar and Asad and nobody else.

Aussies were decent enough to declare supportively in all tests to give Pak realistic chance of winning/saving, coupled with the fact every test had major portion rained too, but this is what the real quality of the test team. If you want to beat Australia, you have to play both innings of a test match with full commitment, coolness, exceptionally well-executed plan, no misfielding or dropping catches and last but not least patience. With Australia, there is only one concept either win the match or lose with a close mark.

If we look at the positives then the tour was purely free of controversies. Pakistan took all three matches to last sessions. But on a serious note: lack of preparation, planning, and execution plus making big claims before the series started. We should avoid touring NZ before the Australia tour - pitches and conditions are NOT the same - if anything, tour NZ after Australian tour. It would have been better if we had prepared the same way as we did for the England tour. Pakistan should now seriously consider the change of guards - need the aggressive mindset to tackle teams like Australia, India, and South Africa. As much as Misbah deserves an applaud for his stellar contributions, it is time for him to move on. It’s a disappointing feeling that Younus Khan did not get 10,000 runs in this match. We will wait for that special day In March.

And yes, this is not the end of the world and Pakistan can bounce back in the years to come with strong and politics free domestic set up and tranquility restoring in the country. Strong batting side and home series are keys to rise from the adversities. Just require a few months of patience and hard work.
