A Hundred of people have been affected by chikungunya in Karachi, due to unhealthy places, and garbage dumps, instigating new mosquito-borne diseases. In the previous month, Chikungunya appeared; leaving malaria-like-symptoms and gradually hospitals were going to fill up with the affected. Epidemiologists have traced back the occurrence of Chikungunya in Karachi with its outbreak in India a few months ago. Chikungunya was reported for the first time by the National Institute of Health (NIH) after three patients were confirmed positive for this mosquito-borne syndrome. Epidemiologists said that NIH had issued an alert in October this year after the chikungunya eruption in India, but no precautionary procedures were taken at airports, railway stations or the Pakistan-India border. Reports said that Tharparkar is high on risk due to transportation between India and Pakistan.

Now the good news is, researchers from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston have discovered the first vaccine for chikungunya fever prepared from an insect-specific virus that doesn’t have any effect on people, making the vaccine safe and effective.

Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease initially depicted during a flare-up in southern Tanzania in 1952. It is RNA infection that has a place with the alphavirus class of the family Togaviridae. It is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in fresh water. The name "chikungunya" gets from a word in the Kimakonde dialect, signifying "to end up contorted", and depicts the stooped appearance of sufferers with joint pain.

The virus is described by an unexpected coming of fever often joined by joint torment. Other regular signs and side effects include muscle pain, headache, nausea, weakness, and rash.

Most patients recoup completely, however now and again joint pain may suffer for a while, or even years. Rare instances of eye, neurological and heart diseases have been accounted for, and in addition gastrointestinal complaints. Severe problems are not regular, but rather in more aged people, the disease can add to the reason for death. Mostly symptoms in affected people are gentle and the disease may go unrecognized, or be misdiagnosed in parts where dengue happens.
