The International Peace Day 2016

The International Peace Day was celebrated on 21st September in Pakistan. Since 1981, this day has been celebrated on the same date in rest of the world as well. This day was dedicated to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and amongst all the nations and its people by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. Later in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. This year, the theme of Peace Day was “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace”.

Root International Schools celebrated the International Peace Day to give the message of peace, unity, brotherhood and tolerance in the society. Main purpose of the entire celebrations was to promote and increase awareness amongst the students regarding the significance of peace in the world. All the students were dressed in blue and white. According to them, the best way to contribute for the world peace is by showcasing peace in the individual behavior.

There were various kinds of activities organized for students’ participation. Teachers and other staff members prepared slogans, posters, headbands and origami doves, which depict the ideal world of peaceful society. Students discussed the idea of peace and its significance to them. Later, paper doves were released in the air with balloons attached to them. Students were also given souvenirs. It was indeed one of the unique and simply kinds of celebrations, institutes like schools could conduct for giving the meaningful message of peace to the young minds.
