Second Craft of the Month by Lok Virsa

After the amazing success of the first phase of the uniquely popular program series “Craft of the Month”, the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) has launched its second phase at the Shakarparian. For this, Federal Directorate of Education and Directorate General for Special Education have also collaborated with the Lok Virsa by nominating their students to participate in the ongoing program. Through this creative program indigenous folk crafts shall be promoted. This would also revive the dying traditional skills and in cult knowledge among the younger generation, specifically children about the rich craft heritage of Pakistan.

Opening ceremony of the first program occurred with the theme of “Truck Art: Engagement with Artisans”. UN representatives were present as Chief Guests at the ceremony. They met different students, which were learning these skills and they were thoroughly impressed.

This ceremony also featured a colorful folk music performance. These performances were of diversity shows all presented by youngsters. Different kinds of folk and mystic songs were sung by the students. National song was presented by the students of Islamabad Model School for Girls. They also presented a mega cultural diversity show “Rhythm of Unity”, wearing beautiful costumes.

Students were also given certificates for their participation in the program “Mirror Work: Engagement with Artisans”. Lok Virsa is organized every year to encourage young minds of Pakistan. These young minds are very talented and so they can bring a lot of pride to the nation.
