Learning Business Ethics through CPEC

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has recently employed around 3,000 Pakistani personnel and 1,000 Chinese for the $1.8 billion Sahiwal Coal Power Project. The Chinese construction firm is situated at the new Islamabad International Airport. It has around 200 Pakistanis and 100 Chinese people. Despite the immense economic factor associated with CPEC, it is the unique business ethical standard of CPEC maintained by Chinese people in Pakistan. People of Pakistan have a lot to learn from it.

Chinese people come from a developed country, where economy is also developed. The core reason, their economy have flourished in the recent years is sheer commitment to hard work. Ample of Chinese values are similar to those analyzed by Max Weber in The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. All these values explain the extraordinary performance of China’s economy following economic liberalization. China believes in the religion called “Civil Religion”, which are valuing ethics, humanity and welfare above anything.

Chinese people live by the principles of getting rich through hard work rather than finding shortcuts. In order to get famous, they believe in studying hard. Nonetheless, Chinese people believe in living a life of their taste cheerfully servicing the society.

Pakistani workers have a lot to learn from all these values. Working side by side with Chinese people in CPEC, there are immense business work ethics these people can actually learn from them and implement in their lives in order to make Pakistan a developed nation and society.
