NUST Pakistanis in Global Soccer Robot Competition

Students at Pakistan’s National University of Science and Technology (NUST) will team the annual RoboCup for the very first time in an event that will feature 32 Universities in Germany. These talented students have designed robot strikers wearing a crescent moon and star jersey lines with penalty kicks. These robots are teammates practicing football to represent Pakistan at the major football tournament. These robots are specially designed to compete with the robots of other Universities to showcase artificial intelligence level of the people in Pakistan.

These six machines designed by these students are NAO humanoid robots, which are bought from France’s Aldebaran Robotics at a cost of roughly $17,000. Pakistan takes pride in the fact that NUST, which is Pakistan’s premier engineering institute has qualified for the prestigious cup. However, they require funds for their presence at the international event, which are not yet given to them from any end. Neither the University nor the government representatives have so far managed to give any funds to these super talented students.

Robotics industry and education in Pakistan is suffering from the scarcity of funds. Young students do not just need funds for traveling to various international events but they also need money to build all the latest robots and design their working.

It is now anticipated that the specially designed robots created by these students are able to win the robotic football game challenge, fully abiding by the rules and regulations of international FIFA.
