Regional Integration

Regional integration has been one of the most dominant policies of the present Pakistani government. This policy feature is portrayed in The Strategic Trade Policy Framework and Vision 2020, which are the two important policy documents of the government. These policy documents highlight the significance of Pakistan’s strategic location as a hub for trade and transit.

As a result of the trade and investment cooperation, the Pakistani government authorities have been busy in meeting with the leadership of various Asian states. It cannot be disregarded that this regional integration has given rise to the business diplomacy with almost all the powerful states of Asia.

Pakistani regional integration has given rise to the Casa-1,000, which is a significant regional collaboration for the establishment of an energy grid linking Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The transportation of energy will take place from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan and Afghanistan during summers. This power supply is produced through hydra resources.

These entire mega projects constituting regional integration are expected to be completed by 2020 and after that it is expected to transmit 1, 300 megawatts, of which 300 MW would be for Afghanistan and the rest would be for Pakistan. Business setup in the country will increase at an immense rate after this supply of electricity. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is another integral part of this regional integration. With crossed fingers, it is now anticipated that there would be new doors of opportunities in China, as well as, in Pakistan after this.
