ARQ: A Celebration of Womanhood

ARQ: A Celebration of Womanhood was a cultural event celebrated on International Women’s Day in Pakistan. Being hosted by Minister for Culture and Tourism, this event was open to the general public with conventional and not-so-conventional art. In order to tribute Women’s Day, all the participants were girls.

From pictures to different colors, everything at the event celebrated the spirit of womanhood. Joshainder Chagger’s performance at the show was based on the theme of “flight”. Through her graceful dance and profound expressions, she captivated the audience with the theme of women liberation.

Fatima Sabeeka, nicknamed as “Beeka” stole the show for the live audience, as well as, all the viewers, viewing pictures and videos of her performance. Her performance was titled as “In the name of the womb”, where she sat in the cage, concealed by a red chaddar and stringed raw meat. This performance portrayed that outside the cage, the woman may seem all normal but the burden of her efforts is like living in that odor of meat in a cage. More than the theme itself, Beeka’s flawless gestures portraying devotion to her work, were simply amazing to watch!

This entire event showcased that how facts and figures prove misery of women in the society. ARQ did an amazing job by portraying all the emotions and situations with Pakistani women with such realistic imagery. These cultural initiatives should be encouraged at all levels to improvise status of women in Pakistan and provide a great forum to these talented artists.
