At Your Own Expense!

Have you ever just went to a restaurant and regretted the visit after your stomach is stuffed with their food? Well, I have seen most of the people doing this these days. One of the worst feelings associated with dining out is when you really wonder that whether you ate that amount of food for which you are being charged later or not!

Restaurants these days have become overtly expensive due to many reasons but often the expenses make you wonder that what in the world should make you spend thousands of bucks on just food that can be prepared by any professional chef. Recently Mr. Abdul Ahad Farshori visited the renowned Andaaz Restaurant in Lahore. He had to pay around 60,000 Pakistani Rupees at the end of his visit for the food for ten people. Obviously, Mr. Ahad was enraged due to the expenses but what more shocking was the insanity of single product costs at the restaurant. One of the hilarious things that happened with Mr. Ahad is when waiter denied him credit or debit card payment. It was the moment of silence because seriously, who carries 60,000 Rupees cash. Even robbers don’t!

Mr. Ahad’s friends doubt that whether they served him meat of some endangered species or pasta from Mars! Being smart, he ordered the main course by looking at the prices of Andaaz’s menu card but all the rest were just recommendations and suggestions. This makes one believe that restaurant’s management is involved in extracting as much money as they can from their customers. Mr. Ahad was being served mineral water for 400 Rupees. But the most eye-opening price was of the dessert! Andaaz Restaurant’s Gulab Jamuns and Jalebis were charged with 2000 rupees! So much for a sweet tooth!

When restaurant management is asked to justify their food cost, they are always ready with tax facts, which are being imposed by the government on private restaurants. Due to these taxes restaurants have to double or triple their food prices. 16% GST is indeed too unfair. However, restaurants can still not justify their expensive service charges. People suggested the poor guy to consult Punjab Food Authorities and report this case but in my opinion, it is all in vain. Nothing concrete can be done until there are serious check and balance on the prices offered by private restaurants. Most importantly, people should protest for such high prices by boycotting their services instead of eating and complaining later.
